User interface

KPI MONITOR user interface maintains same visual style for system administrator and end users. On the one hand, it combines simplicity and intuitiveness, and on another - the sufficiency of the specialized tools for system performance monitoring. The following describes four main elements of the interface: indicators, scorecards, reports, and monitoring panels.

Indicator form reflects both its current value and dynamics of values for the specified time period, using various graphical charts.

There are four types of indicators in KPI MONITOR: basic, target, estimated and container. The layout and functionality of properties and settings form of particular indicator depends on selected indicator type.

Basic and estimated types displays the actual or planned values of the index. Target type designed to represent actual values in the context of critical and planned areas. The system supports arbitrary number of critical areas, and capable to automatically inform responsible personnel about the approaching / entering the risk zone by means of e-mail or sms. Container provides convenience of grouping of several indicators in one visual block. Interactive web-interface developed using MS Silverlight technology supports dynamic display of actual and target values for a specific period, by one click on the chart.

The tabs provided on the form, allows to construct a tabular report for indicator and drill it down by any analytical dimension, and also to retrieve an information on child indicators used to calculate it.

The scorecard is presented as a tree structure. Nesting levels of tree nodes are not limited. Created indicators are grouped in tree nodes by content semantics.

Central position of each node, as a rule, is occupied by an indicator which displays summed up values of child indicators, or generalised value, calculated by the arbitrary algorithm (eg, Pbe = R * Cconst / (R-Cvar) Where: Pbe - break-even point, R - Revenues from sales Cconst - constant costs Cvar - variable costs).

For a quick perception of tree-like structure, it is possible to attach illustrative images, and floating hints that shows more information about the indicator (perspective, purpose, method of calculation, responsible person, etc.).

Ergonomic user interface of tree-like hierarchy of indicators allows a quick search for information (Data Mining): by clicking on the indicator you can drill down to the next level, view a report from which indicator’s data was calculated and return to the scorecard.

Figures below shows fragments of "Finances" branch from the tree of balanced scorecard.

Available reporting forms provides wizard to create tabular reports on various indicators in the context of analytical parameters configured for a particular model. For example, the value of the indicator "cash outflow" may display a report in the context of following analytics: budget item, a cost center, owner of the item, branch. In this case, data is grouped by analytics as well as by time periods. Or, for example, one may report on “time spent on project” indicator in the context of tasks or operations.

Monitoring panels

Monitoring panel is an information panel (dashboard), which is used to visualise the most important indicators, scorecards and reports in combined form. Monitoring panels are used by managers to monitor activities in the organisation, as a source of operational support of managerial decisions.

They are customisable for individual user, in accordance with his/her most significant indicators, responsibility areas and desired graphical elements. Arrangement of elements on the monitoring panel is done by direct manipulation of size and position of the object on the panel with direct visual feedback (drag-and-drop). In addition, customization of panel settings allows flexible access control to the data.

For example, system can be configured so that executive will see only aggregated indicators, and subordinated staff - only their indicators and indicators of their operational unit. Time period for which data is displayed may be set up in centralised way, for the panel in whole, as well as for each particular element. Using the data import scheduler allows to set up required update frequency of the monitoring panel.

In addition to ergonomic and illustrative presentation of complex consolidated data arrays, monitoring panels of KPI MONITOR can be used for data analysis. The system provides interactive user interface to the data visualisation dashboard, where manager can: expand and collapse tree nodes in the indicators hierarchy, navigate between different levels of the model (Drill Down, Drill Up), interactively query data to obtain information about the algorithm of indicators calculation, their critical and planned values, responsible persons, etc. It called Data Mining .

Web-interface of KPI MONITOR reveals extensive opportunities of corporate data visualisation on the wide range of devices from PDA screen to big Plasma and LCD panels.
